First of the three-dimensional mirages, sort of, to have occupied my mind for some time already.  Should take you somewhere near the Equator, where sailing ships tended to have an extra stop on the way north or south due to long stretches of calm.  Horse Latitudes, they used to call them.  Horse Shit Latitudes, they might have also had on their minds.
